Responsible Detecting
Respect for landowners, careful recovery, good field practice and responsible treatment of the history we uncover.
More than a detecting group
Heart of Scotland Charity Digs brings detectorists together for well-run fundraising digs that support registered charities, respect the land and celebrate the history beneath our feet.
Our story
Heart of Scotland Charity Digs is a Scottish-based metal detecting group that organises fundraising events in support of local registered charities, while promoting responsible metal detecting and strong community values.
Our organised digs bring together people of all ages and experience levels — from complete beginners picking up a detector for the first time to experienced hobbyists with years of knowledge behind them. Every event is built around enjoyment, learning and mutual respect.
We place a strong emphasis on correct recovery methods, responsible land use and positive engagement with landowners. By working closely with farmers, local communities and registered charities, we aim to make every event enjoyable for detectorists and worthwhile for the wider community.
What matters to us
Respect for landowners, careful recovery, good field practice and responsible treatment of the history we uncover.
Our rallies are built around raising funds and awareness for registered charities chosen with the people whose land makes the event possible.
Beginners and experienced detectorists are equally welcome. The aim is a friendly group where people can learn, share and enjoy the hobby together.
How it works
The best events are the result of good relationships, clear organisation and respect for everyone involved.
We work with the landowner, agree the event arrangements and identify the registered charity the dig will support.
Members are given the event details, meeting information and expectations so the day runs safely and smoothly.
Detectorists enjoy the day, finds are celebrated responsibly and fundraising proceeds are passed on to the chosen charity.
